nude dialog - current figure photography
by richard cummings
The dialog of this collection is visual. In working with the figure there is a visual conversation that takes place. I, the photographer, (you can call me Rick) may have an idea that is interpreted and expanded on by the model, which usually goes beyond my expectations and will be inspired by a shadow or particular line that I may suggest a slight movement and the whole cycle keeps going, as in a conversation, only with images. I am less interested in identifying the person in the photo as I am how the forms of the body connect me and other to the common bond of humanity. There is a reason the human form has been one of the most common themes throughout art history, everyone has a body can relate to how a body moves and what it feels like. Nudes by-passes our intellect and goes directly into our sub-conscious, so we can relate to our own personal experiences via how it feels like to be in a human body.
This exhibition concentrates on figure work I have done in the last year. Showing current work gives viewers a sense of what I am doing now, or as close to now as possible.
The Nude Dialog Show is at my studio at 1045 Pearl Street in Boulder. The opening is Friday, November 3 from 6:00 until 10:00. There are also view times on Saturday and Sunday, November 4 and 5 from 12:00 until 4:00.
I hope you enjoy the images.
